During his lengthy career in the Outfit Tony Accardo made some smart moves that helped him duck many charges and indictments that saw past mob bosses jailed for life or assassinated. He also led the Chicago Outfit into new areas of business and phased out the old ways that brought FBI heat. He died of heart failure on May 22, 1992.
