This Privacy Policy explains how The Life (“we”, “us”, “our”), operated by NCS Productions Ltd, collects, uses, and protects your information when you use thelife.nationalcrimesyndicate.com (the “Service”).
Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign in, we collect your email address. We use a passwordless “magic link” system — we never see or store a password.
Gameplay data. We record which scenarios you’ve played, the choices you made, and the outcomes, so we can enforce free-tier limits, calculate your leaderboard rank, and show your play history.
Subscription and billing information. If you subscribe to Made Member or The Don, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details. We receive and store your subscription status (which tier you’re on) and a Stripe customer reference ID.
Newsletter signups. If you sign up for “This Month in Mob History”, we collect your email address and share it with our email provider, MailerLite, to send you that newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the Service, including remembering your sign-in and subscription status
- Enforce free-tier play limits and calculate leaderboard rankings
- Process payments and manage subscriptions (via Stripe)
- Send you the newsletter, if you’ve signed up (via MailerLite)
- Improve the Service over time
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions
- Vercel — website hosting
- Anthropic — powers the “Ask the Consigliere” AI chat feature for Made Member and Don subscribers. If you use this feature, your messages are sent to Anthropic’s API to generate a response.
- MailerLite — newsletter delivery, if you sign up
Cookies and Local Storage
We use browser local storage (not tracking cookies) to keep you signed in between visits. This is strictly necessary for the Service to function — without it, you’d need to sign in again every time you visit. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Data Retention
We retain your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. If you’d like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll remove it, except where we’re required to retain billing records for tax/accounting purposes.
Your Rights
If you’re in the UK or EU, you have rights under data protection law (including UK GDPR) to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
Children’s Privacy
The Service deals with historical true-crime subject matter and is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
