On this day‬ in 1988 Nino Gaggi a capo in the Gambino Crime Family and supervisor of the DeMeo crew suffered a fatal heart attack that would end his life at the age of 62.

Gaggi had apparently told a guard that he was suffering chest pain but the guard did nothing to act on this. Gaggi’s death sparked a controversy that eventually resulted in better medical conditions in New York City prisons, and his wife successfully sued for negligence.
