On this day mob boss Frank Costello was convicted on contempt of Senate charges in August 1952 for the famous hearings walkout, and was sentenced to 18 months behind bars. Released after 14 months, Costello was also charged with tax evasion in 1954 and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. He only served 11 months of this sentence before it was overturned on appeal.
