On this day in 1944 New Orleans Family Boss Corrado Giacona dies. Giacona took over operations from Charles Matranga when he retired in 1922. Corrado was the son of Pietro Giacona, who shot four Black Hand members in their home in the French Quarter in 1908, killing three of them. Though never proven, Corrado was a likely shooter in that incident.
