In The Irishman, De Niro plays Frank Sheeran, a mob hitman who takes us back through his criminal past and his possible connection to Jimmy Hoffa’s death. Hoffa, an American labor union leader, was involved with organized crime throughout his career and in July 1975 at the age of 62, he disappeared.
Though Sheeran, also known as The Irishman, was never charged, the book claims that he was responsible for Hoffa’s death.
The book of course is “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt.
De Niro shot scenes at the First Central Savings Bank at 35-01 30th Ave last week, whilst Cannavale was spotted in Queens.
Bobby Cannavale played the formidable Gyp Rosetti in Boardwalk Empire, only this time his full head of hair was replaced with a receding hairline. Bobby is set to play mobster Joe Gallo in The Irishman.
Aside from De Niro and Cannavale, the movie which is directed by Martin Scorsese will also cast Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa, Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino, Harvey Keitel as Angelo Bruno, Stephen Graham (Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire) as Anthony Provenzano, Jack Huston (Richard Harrow, the disfigured war veteran from Boardwalk Empire), Ray Romano, Kathrine Narducci (The Sopranos and A Bronx Tale), and now the news that even New York rapper, Action Bronson, will be an unlikely new cast addition has hit the news.
The film is set to be launched by Netflix in 2019.
